Novak Djokovic hits line judge and gets disqualified

Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 men’s player and No. 1 seed, was disqualified from the tournament after inadvertently striking a lineswoman with a ball hit in frustration.

The three-time tournament champion accidentally hit the judge in a fit of anger during his fourth-round match against Pablo Carreno Busta. Djokovic was down 5-6 when he took a medical timeout for his shoulder after he fell over for a ball lobbed over from his opponent that forced him to changed directions

It seems he then smacked a ball out of frustration, which hit a linesperson, according to the tournament's website.

Photo and video showed Djokovic rushing to the woman's aid after realizing she was hit, seemingly in the neck or shoulder area

Djokovic, 33, has won five of the last seven Grand Slam singles titles and had dropped just one set in his first three matches at the U.S. Open. But the first set against Carreño Busta was a tight affair, and Djokovic was testy. At one stage earlier in the set, he smashed a ball in frustration toward the side of the court, hitting no one.

But when serving at 5-5, he fell hard on the second point while shifting direction and got up wincing and grabbing at his left shoulder. He received treatment in his chair, returned to the court trailing 0-30 and then lost the game, still looking uncomfortable with his two-handed backhand and resorting to a one-handed drop shot on two occasions

Frustrated, he hit the ball again.
