Trump apologize after embarrassment of sharing British far right videos
President Trump put on a rare display of remorse for retweeting anti-Muslim videos from a far-right political party in Britain.
Trump, claiming he knew nothing about Britain First, told Piers Morgan, “If you’re telling me they’re horrible racist people I would certainly apologize if you’d like me to."
Trump spoke to Morgan, his longtime friend and Celebrity Apprentice winner, in Davos, Switzerland, and made an effort to patch up his strained relationship with the UK after his retweets sparked an international outcry in November.
When pressed on whether he would apologize for his retweet, Trump said that if the group was made up of racists then he would.
“Here’s what’s fair, if you’re telling me they’re horrible people, horrible racist people I would certainly apologize if you would like me to do that,” Trump said.
“I know nothing about them. I don’t want to be involved with [these] people, but you’re telling me about these people because I know nothing about these people.”
Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of anti-immigration Britain First, posted the videos which she said showed a group of people who were Muslims beating a teenage boy to death, battering a boy on crutches and destroying a Christian statue.
he clip from the upcoming segment — set to air on ITV Hub in the U.K. on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. — was released by “Good Morning Britain” on Thursday night, and showed Trump telling the host, “I missed you.”
Morgan, who previously won “Celebrity Apprentice,” interviewed Trump during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It marks the first international TV interview that the president has made since taking office
